If you or your company is considering purchasing HR software, you may be wondering if you should hire an HR consultant to help you out.

According to an article by compareHRIS.com, whether or not you should hire an HR consultant to help you evaluate and select the right HR software depends on the complexity of your organization’s needs, your experience with the process and the potential consultant’s knowledge and experience.

“HR consultants can provide a valuable resource for those companies with complex HRIS/HRMS selection needs, provided they have the experience with the various HR systems on the market,” the article notes. “Overworked or understaffed HR departments may not have the time and energy to devote to the entire HR systems selection process.”

If you do choose to hire someone to help, keep in mind that a good HR consultant should be able to make recommendations and suggestions throughout the entire process, and some may even be able to assist with the implementation of the system you choose.

When deciding whether or not to hire an HR consultant, you should first ask yourself how complex your requirements for an HR system are. If you’re only looking for basic entry level software for less than 100 people, you most likely won’t need help choosing a system.

However, if your company is larger, and if you’re looking to integrate features dealing with time and attendance, HR, payroll and talent management, you may be able to greatly benefit from the assistance of an HR consultant.

But before making the final decision, you should consider whether you or anyone on your staff has previously selected or implemented HR software. If so, the process and implementation should be easier and you most likely will not need an HR consultant. for a system and when the tool is complete, you are provided with a scored list of the products providing the best fit for those needs.
